Blacks from the center of the city to the suburbs know the words of those sitcoms that represents the Black struggles of modern times.
Regardless of our position, we gathered around televisions across the country waiting to watch Good Times, The Jeffersons and years later, The Cosby Show.
The Bill Cosby Show was unique in that it was the first time that America had seen us every day as a professional. Cosby made a happy couple married to good guys, not gangster ghetto children often depicted on television. The program was innovative and spectacular, because it was a stark contrast of the oppressed Black family usually represented in plays and described daily in the evening news. White Americans were seeing a dynamic of the Black American family never before shown on television. Some of us were middle class, some of us poorer. The fact is that regardless of the representations, all of us still share the same struggle – images of poverty and violence shown on the evening news.
In years prior to March 1963 in Washington, our communities – rural, suburban and urban – were unified by the boundaries of racism in the United States. The law applied to more violence in the south than in the north, referred to Jim Crow and Black Codes, were designed to limit economic growth and freedom granted to former slaves physics.
The Civil Rights Act 1964 is the reference point discrimination on the basis of law prohibiting race, color, religion, sex or national origin. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibited discrimination in public schools, government and employment. This overturned the Jim Crow Laws and Black Codes in the southern U.S. became illegal to compel the segregation of races in schools, housing or employment. Granted powers to enforce the law were initially weak, but was supplemented in years later.
In the years preceding the Civil Rights Act of 1968, which prohibits discrimination on the sale, rental and financing of housing, Black community was vibrant.
Our communities are filled with doctors, teachers, entrepreneurs, musicians, lawyers and class working citizens. Share a common bond, regardless of social status within the community. Segregation was a market for Black businesses that never exist again. If you need products or services, the first place you went to the Black owned company providing the service, or produced the goods he wanted .. If the service is not found, we the next best business owner to treat us with respect to choose from. Regardless of our state, we sponsored enterprises and Black.
With the approval of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and 1968, we have achieved a certain freedom, which is defined more by what they could afford. That freedom that offers the option to move away from Black community.
Civil Rights laws enabled the "great exodus" of our communities greener pastures. We Movin 'On Up Consumers Black is being accepted more than ever in the white-owned companies, which were very grateful to receive the money eventually. Not only is it good to serve blacks is against the law if they did not.
Before the adoption of the Civil Rights Acts of 1964 and 1968, Black entrepreneurs had a steady stream of customers Black. Our entrepreneurs opened all types of businesses in our community, which was the only place I could open a business. Were assured a chance of success because they had the Black consumer market to rely upon. When Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. led civil rights protests in Birmingham, Alabama, demonstrators stayed in the hotel owned by Gaston GA. There was never a reflection on where we would find the products and services required of existence. Our community was the creation of the necessities of life.
We had Black hospitals and doctors. We are created to serve our people. For example, in late 1940, Black people were not admitted to public hospitals in Dallas, Texas. It was the same in the rest of the United States. So doctors started his own Black hospital. Drs. Joseph Williams, Frank Jordan, father, and E. Holmer Browne were only a few pioneers are worth mentioning.
Before Jackie Robinson breaking the color barrier in baseball, we have created the black league. We had baseball teams stars. We filled the stands to see its own manufacturing history. We discussed "What ifs" of the legendary star Satchel Paige about what could be if he could pitch to Babe Ruth. A famous film describes the struggles in the league, The Long Voyage Bingo All-Stars & Motor Kings with first stars Billy Dee Williams, James Earl Jones and a young Richard Pryor. We had legendary singers and bands filling the legendary clubs of Harlem, NY.
Black business owners were prohibited from opening a business out of our community. The target consumer, then as now, our community is not buying anything.
Suddenly we were competing for buyers with better funding Black business owners white which can often provide better prices and selection. Black chose to target business consumers on Black businesses.
Black communities today are not Black giving consumers the basics of life. There are too few Black-owned and operated places of meeting for happy hour and professional networks. There restaurant too few for family weddings and special occasions. Basketball legend Magic Johnson has used his power and influence of the basketball court to create Theaters Magic Johnson and Starbucks coffee franchises. That is exemplary.
Blacks are expected to have the purchasing power of $ 965,000,000,000. Yes, that's thousands of billion with a B. "That we are for 2009. Now there's a figure you can be proud. It is an increase of over 203% since 1990. This figure comes from The Covenant with Black America by Tavis Smiley.
It is clear that the dollar Black has always had this strength, as evidenced by the bus boycott in Montgomery. We showed our economic power. The boycott is a symbol of what we can achieve when we decided to organize, become committed and remain united for the people.
We have the economic power in our hands today again to create a vibrant Black community. We have the ability to carry everything needed to enjoy life to the places where many of us grew up. As consumers, we must commit to giving consideration to the Black-owned businesses and professionals as we passed. The price war will be won by the business white in most cases. White businesses have a clear advantage of you looking to them first because of enormous amount.
You know what they want. Search that serve our community. Your account is Black owned and operated businesses seek when you buy.
Our doors are open. Come turn our doorknob and enter
How can we serve?
